Janelle Monae lands her first ESSENCE cover for the May 2013 issue. After winning her 1st Grammy for song of the year, for "We Are Young" a collab with the band Fun, indie-fave Janelle Monae may not be a underground artist for much longer, she is set to perform at the annual Essence Music Festival in July and recently signed a contract as a covergirl model as seen on billboards and in print ads. The magazine issue hits newsstands April 5th.
